In order to study the chemical composition of some important irrigated foraqe species at different phenological stages, leaf and stem samples of these plants were chosen for chemical analyses. Chemical tests were applied on both air dried samples and ashes. Ash percentage including sodium, potassium, calctum, and magnesium contents of these samples were measured through different measurment methods. Organic matter, nitrogen, Tota and digestible protein of air-dried samples were also determined. Methodes were used of those suggested by the Association of Official Aqdcultural Chemists. Results of this study showed that protein contents of these plants at an early stages of growth is hiqher than maturity stages. Protein content, palatability and digestibility of grass species at preflowerinq stage was corrparable with alfalfa. Conclusively utilization of foraqe plants at preflo-wering stage is advisable due to high protein, digestibility, phosphorus and calcium contents which all causes oreater weight gain. Data gained cah be useU successful1y, in making a balanced formula for maintenance and fattenning ration of grazi og animals.
