Long-term trends in fertility of soils under continuous cultivation and cereal cropping in southern Queensland. 4. Loss of organic carbon from different density functions.

Dalal R.C. | Mayer R.J.
In 5 clay soils, the rate of loss of organic C from a fraction with a density below 2 Mg per cu m using bromoform-ethanol mixture was 2-11 times greater than the loss from the denser fraction. The higher the clay content, the larger was the difference between these two fractions in rate of loss of organic C. This suggests that the dense fraction was closely associated with clay in these soils. In a sandy soil, rate of loss from the dense fraction was similar to that from the whole soil.
