In 1982 a Scandinavian project on biochemistry of the skin was commenced. This paper is a short report of different studies carried out in this project in 1982-1984. The following investigations are discussed: 1. Effect of chelators (metal binding agents) on depigmentation in scanblack mink. 2. Stimulation of hair growth by sc injections of acid glycosaminoglycans (GAG). 3. Vantocil (an antiviral agent) as the cause of depigmentation on kits, when added to the diet during pregnancy/lactation. 4. Effect of the diet on the composition of dermal connective tissue. 5. Effect of melatonin implantation on connective tissue components of mink skin and their metabolism. 6. Topographical differences in the content of collagen and GAG in mink skin. 7. Biochemical studies on the Ehlers Danlos syndrome (hyperelasticity) in mink. 8. Stability of vitamin C in mink feed. 9. Daily variation in the excretion of urine and glycosaminoglycans in mink.
