With the senescence of isolated officinal magnolia leaves, chlorophyll content and protein content decreased obviously, and the permeability of plasma membrane increased and the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD) related to free radicals metabolism decreased rapidly. The peroxidation of plasma membrane, which caused by free radicals is an important factor of senescence in officinal magnolia leaves. The results showed that high temperature accelerated leaf senescence and nutrient solution retarded the course of senescence.
