The experiment was realized in the Experimental Station of the University of Concepcion at Chillan, thoughout two seasons (87/88) and (88/89). The evaluation was realized in the second year of the experiment, between November of 1988 and March of 1989, in apples Redking Oregon Spur, 8 years of age. For the study it was implanted a differential drip irrigation, supplying 33%, 66% and 100% of the theoretical water requirement of the orchards. The object of the investigation was to determine the real water requirement of apple trees in production, and also to establish the effect of the deficit of water on, quality, production, and fall of flowers and fruits. From the results obtained, the conclusion are: The volume of water applied had a positive effect on the development of the trees, expressed like total branch growth in the season. The values of water potential in the leaf varied for each treatment and the general tendency, shows more negative values for those that received a less volume of water. The fall of flowers decreased with the increase of water applied. Nevertheless, the fall of fruits was greater in the most unirrigated trees, even though this was proportionally less important than the fall of flowers. In this study the parameters of quality of the fruits did not show differences between the different irrigation treatment. The relation of evapotranspiration (Re) increased in the way that a large volume of water was applied. The orchard coefficients (Kc) determined, must be ratified in future studies including larger volume of water applied.
