Ovaries from 9 pregnant buffaloes were collected for this study. They were grossly oval in shape. The average size of the width, thickness and length of the right ovaries after fixing in Bouin's fixative were 1.89+-0.53, 1.47+-0.23 and 2.78+-0.48 cm while the average sizes of the left ovaries were 1.54+-0.28, 1.36+-0.32 and 2.53+-0.51 cm respectively. The functional corpus lutea were present 88.88 percents on the right side and 11.12 percents on the left side. The conventional paraffin technique was applied and cut in serial sections for 6 micro m in thickness. The sections were picked up for every 10 to sections. After staining with H$E, Masson's trichrome stain and periodic acid Schiff's reagent the sectons were observed. The diameter of the primordial follicles and their ovums were ranged between 27.5-40.5 micro m and 25.0-36.25 micro m. The numbers of good and a-retic priomordial follicles of the right ovaries were 4.22+-4.68 and 1,608.11+-2, 148.59 whereas the left ovaries were 3.89+-4.68, 1,825.50+-2,542.40. The diameter of the primary follicles and their ovums were ranged between 38.75-68.75 micro m and 35.0-32.5 micro m. The numbers of good and atretic primary follicles of the right ovaries were 2.22+-2.77 and 2,461.44+-2,897.32; the left ovaries were 0.44+-0.73 and 2,075.56+-2,984.52. The diameter of secondary follicles and their ovums were ranged between 63.75-200 micro m and 57.5-62.5 micro m. The numbers of good and atretic secondary follicles of the right ovaries were 1.22+-1.48 and 578.22+-412.83; the left ovaries were 1.11+-1.27 and 372.78-247.31 respectively. The diameter of graafian follicles and their ovums were 192.5 micro m -11.5 mm and 77.5-101.25 micro m. There were no good graafian follicles in both right and left ovaries during pregnancy. The atretic graafian follicles could be divided into 3 stages: early, definitive and late. The average number of atretic graafian follicles on the right ovaries according to these stages were 72.11+-46.23, 12.78+-9.26 and 176.00+-112.18, while on the left ovaries were 51.11+-29.72, 16.22+-9.52 and 143.00+-65.66 respectively. The luteal cells of the pregnant buffaloes had many vacuoles and dense granules in the cytoplasm.
