In 1983 at a farm in Neuhausen/Filder, a newly installed inverted V-shaped dryer was equipped with a heat recovery system, consisting of an air washer and a heat exchanger. Measurements at this pilot plant showed that an average heat recovery gain of 33.6 % could be attained when drying corn maize. An air washer guarantees the trouble-free operation of the downstreamed tubular heat exchanger. After four years, definitive statements on the good operating reliability and the few cleaning requirements can be made. Depending on oil prices, the amortization time of the heat recovery system is between four and eight years.
