In this study, author emphasizes that the lowlands along the rivers (flood plain) represent the most suitable fields to locate paddy fields in Romania, having in view the following conditions: paddy field location in the suitable areas from thermic point of view; ground water table as close as possible to the surface (flood land, bottom land); location within a natural unit with distinct characteristics from hydrogeological point of view outlined in relief by an abandoned or actual river bed, a short slope higher than 0,5 percent etc.); continuous flooding irrigation associated with stepped drainage according to the microrelief steps. In this way, it is possible to control the ground water table to maintain soil quality and, finally, to have a paddy field with good productivity, well integrated among the surrounding ecosystems.
