The seed of several varieties of onion, carrot, lettuce and cabbage with the moisture content of 5.6 to 7.5 per cent was stored for 86 months in hermetically sealed glass packings, partly with an addition of desiccant at two temperature regimes, and at fluctuating positive temperature within the interval of 5 to 30 degrees C, and at the constant temperature of 0 degree C. Some seed values were studied in the course of storage. The effect of the constant temperature O degree C was found to be good; at this temperature the effect of desiccant was eliminated in comparison with fluctuating temperatures; the good germination of seed was maintained for a longer time when the desiccant was used unlike that of seed stored without desiccant. At the temperature regime of about 0 degree C the test samples maintained roughly the starting values of germination for seven years; at fluctuating temperatures when no desiccant was used, the starting values of germination were preserved for three years in the high-quality seed of onion and for four years in the seed of lettuce. The proportion of seeds damaged by the microflora in chitting trays did not change very much in any variant of the storage conditions of the selected species of vegetables.
