The material investigated consisted of 15 Triticum durum and 2 T. aestivum cultivars. The length, width, thickness, 1000 grain weight and total protein content in grain were determined. The protein content (in per cent) in grain positively correlated with the grain length and negatively with the width of grain. No significant correlation with the grain thickness nor with the 1000 grain weight has been found. Grains poorly filled and of small weight had, as a rule higher per cent of total protein. Differences in the results obtained for the greatest and smallest grain fractions were insiginificant in most cultivars. However, the protein content expressed in mg per grain was always the highest in the greatest and heaviest grains.
