In a long field experiment with corn and wheat in rotation, the effect of N, P and K on the quality characteristics of corn (Pioneer, 3369A), was studied in the years 1981 and 1983. Applied nitrogen increased the protein content of the corn grain, while the positive interaction between applied nitrogen and phosphorus had the same result. The protein yield per stremma was increased with the nitrogen application and the N X P interaction. Finally there wasn't any change in the concentration of the aminoacids lysine and thriptophein in the protein, resulting from the changes of protein content in the grain.
