Cattle raising is the most important branch of the agricultural production for the hilly-mountainous areas. The productive possibilities of the hilly-mountainous areas of Serbia (Yugoslavia) in this branch are higher than the reached scope of production is. In the analyzed period the number of sheep and cattle gets smaller, just of those kinds of livestock for whose raising this area has comparative advantages. The structure of the purebred livestock is rather inconvenient. The other parameters by which the cattle raising is valued are here very inconvenient in comparison to the agriculturally developed countries of the world. The causes of the lagging of the cattle raising development in the hilly-mountainous area of Serbia are determined.
