DEUTSCH: Ixodes ricinus (castor bean or sheep tick) is the most important vector of pathogenic agents in man and pets and farm animals in Europe north of the Mediterreanian region. Other species such as Dermacentor marginatus, Haemaphysalis punctata and Haemaphysalis concinna are only of regional or local relevance to disease transmission. In poultry houses Argas reflexus (pigeon tick) is the most important pest. The pigeon tick can transmit certain pathogenes to poultry and it is a producer of allergens. The rest of the species which are mentioned (lx. persulcatus, lx. canisuga, lx. hexagonus, De. reticulatus, Ha. inermis, Ha. otophila, Rhipicephalus sanguineus and Argas persicus) are only secundary or teriary interests as vectors of disease germs or parasites. The brown dig tick (Rh. sanguineus) is widely distributed in Europe as indoor pest. In the field of hygiene, the brown dog tick and the pigeon tick are the most import pests. The damage cause by the ticks, their morphology, biology, diagnosis and control in domestic animals and man are described in detail in this paper.
