L' agriculture dans les regions urbaines belges.
1996
Hecke E. van
This article analyses the characteristics of agriculture in the urban areas in comparison to the specific agrarian surroundings in the same region. It can be concluded that there are no, or not pronounced differences and that the inter-regional differences of agriculture are much more important than the intra-regional differentiation related to urban and non-urban areas. The intensity and the structure of agricultural production are quite the same. However, the average farm-size and the volume of production are smaller in the urban areas. This can be related to older nwnagers and to a lack of successors. So agriculture, especially in the inner part of urban areas, is significantly less dynamic and will tend to disappear. This mutation will be a serious problem for the conservation of the open space.
