On the base of field experiments in 1992/93 and 1993/94 higher yields were obtained after sugar beets and yellow lupine compared to cereals as the previous crop, when yield reductions were observed (of 0.64 t/ha in 1993 and 0.47 t/ha in 1994). Physical and chemical soil properties varied under the previous crops examined. Higher amounts of total nitrogen as well as potassium were observed after the sugar beets and yellow lupine. Potassium content in the soil decreased from high to medium levels after the cereals. Similarly, magnesium content and the soil pH decreased slightly in the cereals treatments.
