Genetic marker as a tool for identification of zygotic seedlings in citrus.

The study was conducted to discover genetic marker on Citrus. Grape-fruit (C. paradisi) in an interspecific cross with rough lemon C. limon) imparted dominant factor of winged leaf-petiole to its hybrid. This factor was named as genetic marker and used for identification of zygotic seedlings. Proportion of hybrid seedlings was low which could be attributed to environmental and genetic factors. Data indicated that lower the number of seedlings per seed, greater the probability of hybrids surviving. Information on crossing relationship, percent fruit-set and production of viable seed indicated that two species do not appear to be reproductively isolated from each other.
