Thirty-three Nicotiana species were chromatographically screened for the presence of three major flavonoids: rutin, quercetin 3-sophoroside, and quercetin 3-glugoside. Rutin was found to be present in all species studied with the exception of N. setchelli. The latter species contained large amounts of quercetin 3-sophoroside and was unique in this respect in the subgenus Tabacum.
