Single cells from sugarcane callus were cultured using plating techniques in a Murashige and Skoog semi-solid medium supplemented with 4 mg/l 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid, 1 mg/l 6-BA (6-benzylamino purine) and 15% coconut water under dim light (100 lux, 16 hrs/day). After 14 days single cells divided to form colonies. This technique of single cell cloning was useful as a quick and inexpensive tool for selecting desirable genotypes of sugarcane.
