In order to obtain potent antifungal compounds against Valsa ceratosperma, berberine derivatives which are berberine iodide, berberine acetone, tertrahydroberberine, berberine sulfate, oxyberberine, berberine picrate, berberine bromide and berberine were synthesized from berberine chloride, and their chemical structures were identified by instrumental analyses. Among berberine derivatives comprising berberine chloride, berberine sulfate and berberine iodide showed potent inhibitory activity against the pathogen in vitro, and their EC50 for inhibition of the mycelial growth were 0.5-1.0 micron g/ml in fluid media, respectively.
