Extraction of human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) from urine of pregnant women and its efficacy in inducing spawning of fish.

Experiments on the extraction of HCG from urine of pregnant women and its efficacy in inducing breeding of fish were conducted from 7 January to 16 June 1983. Urine was collected from two donor women. Benzoic acid adsorption method was followed to extract the HCG. The peak secretion of HCG in urine was found as 47.9mg (=47.900 i.u.) on the 64th day of pregnancy. A very rapid rise and decline in HCG content in urine was observed from 50th to 64th and from 64th to 80th day of pregnacy respectively, while the content continued to decline very slowly from 81st to 130th day of pregnancy.
