Dry seeds (10.5% moisture content) of two recommended mungbean varieties, Uthong 1 and Uthong 2, were gamma irradiated at 30 and 50 krad. The M1 plants along with their controls were grown. To screen the M2 progenies of irradiated plants for yellow mosaic virus resistance, the M2 plants were grown in the farmers' fields. This field was selected according to the prevalence of the disease. Some M2 plants were also grown at teh Bangkhen nursery for the production of the additional M3 seeds. Leaf mutants were noted among the M2 progenies e.g. the narrow leaflet and the intermediate leaflet mutants.
