A study on the residual effect of chloride radical on tobacco qualities was conducted on sandy clay loam. Rice grain yield obtained from the application of ammonium chloride, ammonium sulfate and urea at the same rate and same time were not statistically different. Higher rate of nitrogen application gave higher rice grain yield. All rates of ammonium sulfate and urea; and only ammonium chloride at 6 kgN/rai applied to rice plant had no residual effect on yield and qualities of tobacco. High rate application of ammonium chloride (18, 36 kgN/rai) to rice plant had increased the chlorine content in tobacco leaf over 1 percent which was higher than the limitation set by the Thailand Tobacco Monopoly. Chemical content in the tobacco leaf such as total nitrogen, leaf pH, ash pH, petroleum ether extractive, and % ash in every treatment were not statistically different.
