Under field conditions, 2 transport enrichment media (TEMs) and selective agar media were compared for their ability to maintain and support the growth of C. fetus. At the same time the number of successful isolations using TEMs or direct culturing procedures were also compared. The modified Weybridge TEM was easier to prepare and gave superior performance to the Australian TEM. Direct culturing using campylobacter selective agar was the most reliable method for the isolation of C. fetus.
