The tree belt of 5 m width and 7.5 m height was established in 1955 on heavily eroded rendzina slope of the southern exposition under climatic conditions of Lublin Upland (Poland). Shadow and competition of the tree belt vegetation exerted a decisive influence on the yield magnitude of the cereals under study, cultivated on the northern side of the tree belt. Along with decreasing grain yield with the diminished distance from the tree belt the yield quality, expressed in terms of percentual content of protein, increased.
