Three methods have been examined to determine the organic fraction of the cation exchange capacity of soils. Agreement have been found between the Addiscott results (CEC Ca/K) and those of a method for which the exchnge capacity of the carboxyl groups is obtained through their conversion to amides (CEC COOH).
