The beer and malt production in Yugoslavia gives significant quantities of side products which could contribute to the rationalisation of the production. By selecting the side products from the waste waters, a great contribution is made to the lowering of the degree of their pollution. The yeast from the beer breweries has a somewhat lower content of proteins with a limited biological value. The rest of the parameters of the quality of the beer yeast are within the normal range. Beer huskus has greater content of proteins and smaller content of crude fibres while all other parameters of quality are within normal range. The similar is true for hop huskus quality. The other side products have the usual quality. Beer yeast and huskus can be used as food for human consumption after a suitable treatment. Beer yeast, beer and hop huskus, and malt extract can be used as fodder. In Yugoslav factories it is possible to use the side products by modern processes.
