The experiments was aimed to determine the method of leaf handling of citronella grass before distillation. In this experiment the leaves were experienced in different treatment i.e. air-dried in room condition for 3 and 5 days, sun-dried for 2 and 4 hours, and sun-dried for 2 and 4 hours and the air-dried for 3-5 days. The leaves were distilled in water and steam distillation method with a capacity of 23 kg fresh leaves per batch, distillation time 4 hours and distillation rate 7.20 l condensate per hour. The results showed that sundrying and airdrying of cintronella leaves had no effect on oil yield, but the quantity of leaves distilled per batch was higher. This means increased distillation efficiency. Sundrying and airdrying decreased citronellal and graniol content of oil, but had no effect on physical characteristic of the oil.
