During complex investigations on climate in tropical karst conditions in the Island of Cuba, a new influence on the cave microclimate was studied and described: the thermic effect of enormous amounts of bat colonies (3-8 millions bats in each colony). According to a month measurement, it has been proved that the cave microclimate parameters do not change with the outside variations, but is influenced by the presence of these animals. The direct and indirect role of the heat quantity emitted from the bats individually and from a colony as a whole has been investigated. Heat emission from the fermenting excrements of the bats is considered as a part of the process. The influence on the speleologist and the harmful effect of staying in such a cave have been discussed.
