It was studied for 10 years (1976-1985) the optimum sowing time for sunflower hybrids with high oil content (over 50%) and low husk content seeds. The mean data for 10 years indicated that the optimum sowing time for sunflower under the conditions of the reddish-brown soil of the Romanian Plain is from the end of March to 15-20 April. Late sowing resulted in lower yields, higher husk percentage, reduced oil content and increased protein content of the seeds, while too early sowing extended the sowing emergence phase (to about 20 days) and thus the plants were more sensitive to diseases.
