Fourteen high-yielding peanut lines of an F8 generation plus two checks, Tainan 9 and SK 38, were tested in seven environments during May 1983 to May 1984. Variability due to environments was high for all characters studied. Lines differed considerably in yield, number of pods per plant, number of mature pods per plants and 100-kernel weight. The line by environmental interactions for all these traits including the number of immature pods per plant were significant. Considering all three stability parameters, it was found that Tainan 9 was most stable in yield, indicating wide adaptability. In comparison with the other lines, (Shulamit x Nc2)-1 demonstrated best stability in yield and yield components.
