Studies on the effects of glyphosate on nutsedge control in corn under two levels of phosphate were conducted. Preplanting application of glyphosate of the rate of 0.12, 0.24, 0.43 and 0.96 Kg (a.i.)/rai and fertilizer phosphorus at the rate of 16 and 32 Kg (P2O2)/rai were studied in three consecutive seasons. The results obtained demonstrated that glyphosate levels which provided good nutsedge control were from 0.24 to 0.96 Kg (a.I.)/rai. Additionally when glyphosate was applied at the first season, the reducing effects on nutsedge population in the subsequent season was also evident. Repeated application of glyphosate in two consecutive seasons did not give better nutsedge control than single application in the first season. No interactions between glyphosate and phosphate occurred when compared on the impact on weed control efficacy and grain yield production. At highest rate (0.96 Kg (a.i.)/rai) of glyphosate application, the residue left over in soil did not show any marked effect on corn even at 32 Kg (P2O5)/rai of fertilizer phosphorus.
