According to the authors' results, it can be concluded that L-carnitine supplementation has a positive effect on the general metabolic status (energy and metabolism) of foals. The achieved weight gain and the degree of protein conversion were significantly greater in those foals which received 10 g/day L-carnitine for 78 days, than in the control group. In the treated group, the triglyceride level of the blood significantly decreased, while the urea content increased. In determining the urea content of the urine collected at the end of the trial, it was found that, following the L-carnitine supplementation, the urea content in the treated foals was lower than in the urine of the control group.
