Study on the roots growth and respiration of hybrid rice.

This experiment is concerned with the studies of the roots morphology, weight, volume, protein content and respiration intensity of four hybrid rice combinations. The results of the experiment are as follows: 1. The root amount of four hybrids is larger than that of their parents. 2. The protein content and respiration intensity of the roots at heading-filling stage show peak values. 3. The roots of hybrids have some characters from their male and female parents in length, diameter, developing of lateral and top layer roots. 4. There is no transgressive heterosis in the respiration intensity of the hybrid roots.
