The results obtained in the course of three-year investigations of the six Yugoslav cultivars of lucerne point out to the following conclusions: By ranking the results obtained in this investigation and produced under the same conditions, cultivars NS Backa ZMS4, K-1 and NS Vrsac ZMS4 shared the first three places, while the cultivars Zdravka, Olimpik-84 and Mirna were ranked as the lower yielding. The differences between the three year average yields of green mass and hay between the cultivars Mirna, Olimpik-84 and Zdravka, and those of cultivars NS Backa ZMS I and K-1, as well as the differences between the cultivars Mirna and NS Vrsac ZMS4, were highly significant. In this experiment the average anual yields of green mass, dry matter, crude protein and oat feed units, regardless of cultivars, were more decisively influenced by the years, or better to say, by the number of cuttings per annuum, rather than anything else. The differences between the years were, in the most cases, highly significant, especially those between 1986 (three cuttings) and 1988 (five cuttings). On the basis of dry matter content in all three years, it may be concluded that the control cultivar NS Backa ZMS1 is somewhat late maturing in relation to the other five, because all the cultivars were cut in the same time. Ratio of stem to leaf, from cut 1 to 5 showed a tendency of increasing participation of leaf in the whole plant, while at the same time, the total weight of plant was decreasing. This was found in all the cultivars.
