Population dynamics of infective vesicular-arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi in a rice-based cropping system [Philippines].

The numbers of infectious endomycorrhizal fungi were consistently less in the low-lying field (Lungog) which had a rice-rice cropping pattern compared to the field in the upper stratum (Turod) with a rice-corn-grain legume pattern. The inoculum potential was generally low after the maturity of the dry season crop. Fluctuations in the number of effective vesicular-arbuscular mycorrhizal (VAM) fungal propagules were apparently affected by the prevailing moisture conditions in the field and by the cropping pattern.
