Field experiment was carried out in 1994 to evaluate the agronomic performance of 15 tissue-culture derived linseed regenerants along with one standard check at two sites representing the major linseed growing environments of Ethiopia. The 16 test entries were accommodated in 4 x 4 simple lattice design. Substantial differences were observed among the regenerants for seed yield, oil content, maturity period, disease reactions, etc. and some variants with better agronomic traits were identified. Changes in rank orders (crossover) of seed and oil yield were observed implying the importance of G x E interaction, which are required for designing the right breeding strategies. Four regenerants showed major crossovers while the other four indicated relatively stable yield performance at both locations. The tissue-culture breeding technique was realized to benefit linseed improvement program, by supplying important genetic variability and by infusing new knowledge that may lead to more productive works in the future.
