Furocoumarins of Pastinaca sativa subsp. sylvestris.

From the fruits of P. sativa, subsp.sylvestris, the furo(3,2-g) coumarins bergapten, imperatorin, isopimpinellin and xanthotoxin were isolated; their content was determined spectrophotometrically (U.V.) and found to be higher than in the fruits of other varieties of Pastinaca gathered in the same season. The 6-methoxyfuro (2,3-h) coumarin (sphondin), not prior detected in Italian parsnips, was also identified and assayed.
