Exact determination of driving speed is wanted for efficient supervision and control of many agricultural working processes. A non-contact measurement by radar doppler principle promises to be especially suitable. The paper presents results of three different radar sensors, for which accuracy of measurement as a function of driving speed was determined in laboratory and field tests. Parameters investigated are soil surface conditions, distance between radar sensor and soil surface, mounting arrangement of the radar sensor, and direction of radar beam.
