The drought effect on the plant viability and yielding capacity has been studied on two wheat lines of a single variety with differing epicotyl length. Under the drought effect, the plants of the long-epicotyl line exceeded those of the short-epicotyl line and the initial variety by the viability, the productive tillering, the seed number per head, and the thousand-seed weight. The possible relationship between the epicotyl length, the development of a deep-penetrating root system, and the drought resistance has been considered.
