Composition of silage from cooked and raw potato.

In 34 laboratory silos (19.5 kg material in each) the raw or cooked potato were ensiled in six modifications: cooked potato, raw potato, cooked potato + peel (30 + 70 %), raw potato + peel (30 + 70 %), cooked potato + peel + urea (29.1 + 68.2 + 2.7 %) and cooked potato + peel + urea (28.3 + 66.0 + 5.7 %). Silos were opened successively from 8th to 33rd week after ensiling. Silage from raw potato contained more dry matter, crude protein, in vitro digestible protein, lactic acid and less sugars, acetic and propionic acid, pH value was lower, too. In silage with peel the same tendency was observed. In the silage with urea high content of lactic and also acetic and propionic acid was found. The starch content was low. During the time energy value and crude protein content increased whereas the content of dry matter and starch decreased.
