Eight clinically healthy non-lactating Black Bengal does (11-15 kg) maintained on standard ration with free grazing and water ad-lib were used. The animals were divided into control and treatment groups, each group consisting of 4 goats. Aqueous solution of I. carnea was administered daily orally at 160 mg/kg body weight (at 1/5th of ALD50 dose) for 21 days to each of the 4 goats of the treatment group only. The values of SAP, SGOT, SGPT, LDH both in control and treated groups remained almost the same. This indicated no significant effect on these parameters. The administration of aqueous extract of I. carnea also produced no effects on blood cholesterol, BUN, blood sugar as well as serum sodium, potassium and calcium levels. The aqueous extract also did not alter the total serum, protein, albumin, globulin levels and albumin/globulin ratio. The sustained daily dose treatment of the aqueous extract of I. carnea did not evince any pathological aberration on routine urea examination.
