In four experiments Neguvon (Trichlorphon) was applied by the "pour-on" technique against goat grubs. The purposes of these experiments were to test the efficacy as larvicide and the toxicity of Neguvon, to determine the appropriate time, the number of applications, and the possibility to be used in practice. Neguvon was applied as a single treatment on groups of young goats, at the end of September, October and November. It was also applied between October and December at one, two and three monthly intervals. Neguvon was used mainly at the dose of 10mg/kg body weight and it was also tested at the doses of 15 and 20 mg/kg body weight. The results of these experiments are summarised as follows: No side effects were observed at the dose of 10 mg/kg body weight, but the efficacy was relatively low. Side effects were observed at the doses of 15 and 20 mg/kg, without considerable improvement of the efficacy. The different time of applications as well as the number of applications influenced little the efficacy. The low efficacy and the side effects which could be observed in the field from over-dosing or from idiosyncrasy are not in favour for the use of Neguvon as pour-on against goat hypodermosis.
