In 1988 the introduction of Diflufenican on to the German market is scheduled in the form of a combination-product with Isoproturon with the trade name Fenikan(R). After several years of small-plot trials Fenikan proved to be a suitable herbicide for the weed control in winter-cereals in autumn (pre- and post-emergence). The levels of efficacy against grass-weeds (Alopecurus myosuroides, Apera spica-venti and Poa annua) and broad-leaf weeds are between 95 and 100 per cent, an average of 90 per cent control is obtained against Galium aparine. Therefore a follow-up-treatment in the spring is unnecessary. At a low dose (50 g/ha) Diflufenican is also a suitable partner for other cereal herbicides for post-emergence-treatments in the spring. This is demonstrated in the case of an Apera spica-venti and broad-leaf weedkiller currently under development (AGR. 42980 H).
