Toward the development of resistant varieties of soybean to insect pests in Indonesia.
1990
Suharsono
Soybean has a number of insect pests which cause severe damage at different growth stages, the damage varies between different crop growing seasons. In main production areas insecticides are applied by 90 percent of the farmers. Efforts to identify resistant varieties have been initiated, and some breeding lines/varieties were found to be relatively resistant to Spodoptera litura F. and Riptortus linearis F. Among the varieties/breeding lines screened, Manalagi, Kerinci, Tidar and Gallunggung show promise for use in breeding programmes. Antibiosis is suspected to be the mechanism of resistance of these varieties. However, their reaction to the insects is not the same.
