Soils investigation of Plantation Golden Grove.

The investigation was conducted to determine the suitability and extent of the soils for agricultural purposes. Soils in the area can be grouped as follows: 1) predominantly clay textured, occurring on relatively high topographies - they comprise 35 % of the area and have a high potential for agricultural production; 2) sandy textured soil, Ithaca, comprises 2 % of the area - fertility levels are low but with the use of chemicals or organic fertilizers, it could be made productive. Because of its physical characteristics it is suited for the cultivation of a wide range of crops; 3) low-lying soils comprise 63 % of the area and include the organic peat, Mara clay, Weldaad clay and Inki clay. They have a moderately high potential for agriculture. Their limitations however are poor nutrient status, spotted toxic conditions and susceptibility to flooding.
