Pirimidine glucosides-vicine, convicine and L-DOPA were determinated by HPLC method in the seeds of twelf Polish varieties of faba bean: Alen, Bronto, Dino, Jasny, Kamir, Nadwislanski, Pionier, Stego, STH-291 (Tim), Tibo, Tinos, Tom. In all varieties vicine was a dominant component and its content ranged between 0.48 and 0.58% of seed dry matter. The highest amount of vicine was found in Nadwislanski variety. The convicine concentration ranged from 0.22 to 0.34%. The lowest concentration of vicine and convicine was found in Tibo variety. Polish varieties contained medium amounts of total pyrimidine glucosides, as compared to the foreign cultivars.
