Evaluation of potato germplasm in north Vietnam continued at INSA, Hanoi [Vietnam] in 1988-1989. Four sets of advanced selections and cultivars were evaluated in replicated yield trials. The cultivars I-1039, P-7, 104.12LB, V-3, LT-7, 378597.1, LT-8, 4.1DI, 38.6, 378711.7, and 385084.3 were among the highest yielders. The cultivar I-1039 is also preferred because of its yellow flesh, resistance to late blight and good storability. In other trials, 15 advanced clones were selected and among these were selections derived from the crosses 90 (CFK-69.1 x DTO-33) and 88 (378015.16 x bulk LB early). Three sets of germplasm consisting of second year selected clones, tuber families and TPS families (transplants) were grown for selection of clones. The crosses with Serrana (a PVX, PVY resistant cultivar with good seed storability) or LT-7 (a heat adopted cultivar) as parents had the highest number of clones selected. Among TPS families, hybrids with bulk pollen had higher selection rates and yields compared to open pollinated counterparts. Clones having 378015.16 as parent had good tuber storability under diffuse light. The cultivars Lal Pakri and Dajarisada also had good tuber storability but had low yields and small tuber size.
