英语. This paper reported the result of chemical analysis of nine wood species from East Indonesia. The analysis comprise of the determination of holocellulose, cellulose, lignin, pentosan, ash content, silica content and the solubility in cold water, hot water, one percent of sodium hydroxide and alcohol benzene extractives. These analyses were conducted to determine their basic characteristics and ultimate uses of the wood. The result showed that holocellulose content ranges from 66,91-75,29 percent, cellulose from 43,50-54,72 percent, lignin from 24,04-33,09 percent, pentosan from 14,34-18.95 percent, ash content from 0,38-2,13 percent, silica content from 0,12-1,91 percent. The solubility in cold water ranges from 2,71-8,42 percent, hot water from 2,87-8,92 percent, in NaOH 1 percent from 12,34-26,65 percent and in alcohol benzena (1:2) from 2,42-11,86 percent. Based on chemical analysis, especially the cellulose content the 9 wood species from East Indonesian are suitable as raw material for pulp and paper industry.

Analisa yang dilakukan meliputi penetapan kadar holoselulosa, selulosa, lignin, pentosan, abu, silika dan kelarutan dalam air dingin, air panas, NaOH 1 persen dan alkohol benzena. Analisa ini berguna untuk menentukan perkiraan kegunaan kayu. Hasil analisis memperlihatkan bahwa kadar holoselulosa berkisar antara 66,91-75,29 persen, selulosa 43,50-54,72 persen, lignin 24,04-33,09 persen, pentosan 14,34-18,95 persen, kadar abu 0,38-2,13 persen, silika 0,12-1,91 persen. Kelarutan dalam air dingin berkisar antara 2,71-8,42 persen, dalam air panas 2,87-8,92 persen, alkohol benzena 2,42-11,86 persen dan kelarutan dalam NaOH 1 persen antara 12,34-26,65 persen. Berdasarkan hasil analisa terutama dari kadar selulosanya, maka 9 jenis kayu dari Indonesia Bagian Timur cukup baik untuk dibuat pulp dan kertas.
