When applying the pycnometric method for the soil solid phase density determination, the air should be evacuated from the water suspension by simple boiling. Measurements of the solid phase density of sod-podzolic loamy soils to a depth of 0.5m on the area about 5ha permitted to conclude that the mineral part of the solid phase has an average density equal to 2.686 without any changes with depth. The density of humus is approximately assessed as 1.49g/cm**3. Density variations are basically related to the difference in humus content in the soil.
