Andalin (active ingredient flucycloxuron) is a new benzoylurea categorized as an Insect Growth Regulator (IGR). The compound has both acaricidal and insecticidal activity. The mode of action on insects is by interference with chitin deposition. On mites the same mode of action is expected, therefore, an activity is only found on eggs and juvenile stages. Eggs can be affected either after direct contact, but also when laid by females that have been into contact with Andalin. Predatory mites and insects are hardly affected by Andalin and the mammalian toxicity of the compound is very low. These properties make it an outstanding product in Integrated Pest Management Programs. In tropical crops, Andalin can play an important role in the control of most mite species and arange of insects.
